This independent film was well thought out and had good intentions. The plot while a bit dry at first eventually became interesting and started to unfold around her life and misconception of her family. But almost wasn't worth waiting the first half hour for. Shailene Woodley's performance in the movie was unlike any of her other movies so broadly based on romance. This movie gave her space to grow as an actress. However because of her talent it felt like the movie relied too heavily on her performance and lacked in depth of other character relationships. As the story progresses trying to guess the ending is next to impossible and as soon as you think you have it, the plot changes opening up different opportunities for the ending. The ending is nothing you could have guessed, it's got quite the twist.

Beautiful and haunting coming-of-age drama. The acting performances are excellent, with the standout being Shailene Woodley's bravura performace. Hands down her best performance to date. The directing by Gregg Araki is splendid and a feast for the eyes and the movie looks visually stunning. The soundtrack is one of the many highlights of this fantastic movie. The ending is very unexpected and well done. There are some moments when the movie takes confusing turns and show an overabundance of flashbacks. The script is well written and the characters are well developed. White Bird in a Blizzard is a fascinating character study with many great elements to it that makes it not easy to forget. I highly recommend it for the amazing cast and director alone.

Shailene Woodley has garnered a reputation of being a Jennifer Lawrence copycat because of the roles they have taken on in their careers which is unfair as the only true bsimilarities I see is they are both truly the most talented actresses of their generation. The film itself is an independent coming of age thriller where Kat's (Woodley) mother disappears and she explores what she deems is her new found sexuality without the restrictions of her mothers presence until she has to confront the truth and how her mothers disappearance really affected her. Its an entertaining film with great acting from all involved especially from Eva Green and Shailene Woodley and for fans of indie cinema its a must watch
