In New York, the money-driven dealer Dean Corso is a rare-books expert and partner of Bernie, who owns a bookstore. He is contacted by the renowned collector of books about the devil Boris Balkan, who has just acquired the rare The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows from the collector Andrew Telfer, to verify whether his book is authentic or a forgery. Balkan explains that the book was written by the writer Aristide Torchia, in 1666, with Lucifer and he was burned at the stake with his entire work. There are only three exemplars of The Nine Gates and in accordance with the legend, its nine engravings form a riddle to conjure the devil. The skeptical Corso accepts the assignment and has to fly to Sintra, Portugal, and Paris, France, to contact the owners Victor Fargas and Baroness Kessler and find the genuine exemplar for Balkan. Meanwhile, he asks Bernie to hide the rare book. Before traveling to Europe, the widow Liana Telfer wants to retrieve the book and has sex with Corso, but ...

Lauren Ashley Carter & Director Mickey Keating spend a little over an hour just showing off their respective talents, and the conduit is this nasty little horror film that main-veins tension and unease into you from the opening minutes and crescendos with such unforgettable imagery that no one can or should care if they find the third act or ending to be the weakest part of the film. This film feels more like a favor by horror-hounds in Carter & Keating for audiences that would kill to encounter more Genre films with this much appreciation for its source material/predecessors - and I'd like to speak for all of us in collectively thanking them for brief, slightly flawed, but highly efficient nightmare machine.

3.3/5In case it werent immediately obvious from the first two minutes of the film, a quick wikipedia search will clear all non-existing doubts that Darling is heavily influenced by Polanski films, if "influenced" meant almost entirely remaking his apartment trilogy under one more horror-focused film, and that is hardly a compliment as for the first half it lacks all originality except for its mostly pretentious usage of chapters and its New York setting. Thankfully as the story develops the horror intentions overshadow its suspense roots and it makes for a peculiar and competent modern horror specimen that lasts as much as it needs to.

One of the worst films ever made. This dreadfully dull film has an unjustified swagger and arrogance, it's a film that thinks it is being clever when in reality it's not only unoriginal but mind numbingly dumb. It's an extremely tiresome watch dressed up as art. It wants to be horror meets film noir but what it delivers is a film that will leave you questioning if you ever want to sit in a cinema again. It felt like I aged 10 years enduring this tripe truly truly boring effort, I appreciate people worked hard on this but it's terrible on every level. cinema again.

With Ride Along 2 what we get is more of the same. It's a predictable by the book Buddy cop movie so you pretty much know what to expect. There's some action scenes, some humor, corrupt people, drugs, guns, etc. It's watchable and the cast does a good job with some decent laughs but nothing is here very memorable. If you're a diehard fan of the first one you may enjoy this but casual fans may feel like they've already seen it before.
