Very good movie, while not showing a good portion of the horrors of World War 2 it wasn't really necessary. The story wasn't about the concentration camps, it was about a little German girl who loves to read. What it does show is her love, passion, and her loss. It shows the joy of a friendship rekindled, and that despite loss and horror, life is meant to be lived, and to the fullest. Very well done.

The scene with the child's chorus over lapped with the imagery of Jews being beaten and taken from their home was powerful and will stick out as a perfect example of a great scene in an otherwise mediocre movie. The acting from the three main leads is fine in its self. And it is nice and kind of weird seeing a World War 2 movie set in Germany that follows the lives on people other than in hiding Jews and/or the people trying to smuggle them out, though there is a bit of that. Despite all of this, the film will go down as just another unremarkable adaptation in a world of ever more unremarkable adaptations.

I think this is a pretty good movie, but one of the problems is that it took a good amount of the movie to develop the plot. The actors were relatively good at depicting the lives of people living during the war. The Narrator Death I liked a lot because he helped me understand the story better. The main character "Liesel" is a girl who changes the lives of everybody she meets. SHe changed the lives of her foster parents obviously by just showing them love. She changed the life of Max (the jew that was hiding in their basement) by never giving up on him when he was dying. She changed the life of Rudy her loverboy. My favorite part was when at the end because Max had to leave to keep their family safe and 2 years later he comes into the shop she is working in and then they are reunited. My least favorite part was when everybody that she loves dies when the bombs came, during that scene Death was there narrating their last thoughts and how he felt when they died, I cried at this part. So overall I would recommend? this movie and watch it again.
