a joke. one of the worst movies ever made. another movie that makes me feel blessed to get to experience what good movies really are. watching it as a joke, this was entertaining and hilarious. filled with almost constant things you can make fun of. the acting is absurd. the actors were all horrible choices. some of my favorite characters from the game were played by someone so LAME. vega?!?!?! smh. i think every single casting decision was horrendous. van dam was a US soldier who can't speak english lmao. but the tattoo of the american flag proves that he's american. the fighting was disgustingly awful. so funny

Not quite as bad as I remember it. This film was released right about the same time as the surprisingly good "Mortal Kombat" film and it paled in comparison. Written and directed by cornball 80s action writer Steven E. de Souza, he brings a cartoony sensibility to the film, which seems appropriate for a film based on a video game. Jean-Claude Van Damme leads UN forces agains the evil Raul Julia. There are lots of characters from the video game fighting on either side. Ming-Na Wen is the only one that stands out, playing Chun-Li. Kylie Minogue, Andrew Bryniarski, Wes Studi, the great Benny Urquidez, and many other familiar character actors appear in the film. Raul Julia is also way too good of an actor for this film and sadly it was his last film. Overall, this is passable Saturday morning cornball fare that is unpretentious if not at all memorable.

Why would anyone hate this? The campiness makes this movie deserve its status as so bad it's good. It's so cheesy that it's hard not to resist. The performances aren't that good except for Raul Julia as M. Bison, OF COURSE!!!! The action isn't all that mind-blowing either. Yet why can't I resist when I see JCVD kick ass? Must be him being hard to take seriously with that thick Belgian accent and everyone sort-of rolling along with it. One problem it does have is too many characters making the plot hard to keep up with. Blame Capcom. The director wanted to only allow relatively few characters from the games for the sake of a coherent storyline but Capcom saw the movie as nothing more than a 100-minute long advertisement for their games and inserted every character from the roster that existed at the time. For a movie called Street Fighter, there's not much street fighting. I know the franchise was still young at the time and we knew nothing beyond M. Bison is evil back then but come on. Street Fighter is not good yet I find it too irresistible to give it a lower rating.
