Set in 2031, the entire world is frozen except for those aboard the Snowpiercer. For 17 years, the world's survivors are on a train hurtling around the globe creating their own economy and class system. Led by Curtis, a group of lower-class citizens living in squalor at the back of the train are determined to get to the front of the train and spread the wealth around. Each section of the train holds new surprises for the group who have to battle their way through. A revolution is underway.

Adapted from a 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, Bong Joon Ho's eco-apocalyptic science-fiction blockbuster about class warfare on the titular globe-encircling post-modern Noah's Ark in a new Ice Age ingeniously delves into debates on geoengineering, authoritarianism, ecological balance, social Darwinism, politics of fear and Rousseauesque anarchism.

Hop aboard the cinematic train to Obvious Allegory Land, first stop Gore-ville. The makers of this film want you to think about life and death and society and power-but don't worry, you don't have to think very hard. Mostly you just have to endure a couple of hours of bloody violence. It's an uncomplicated linear journey, much like riding a train from point A to point B. Sure, there are some twists and turns along the way (many entirely implausible), but not enough to make this dark and depressing vision of humanity worth the effort.

Interesting, but I thought it lacked character development. Felt kind of like a child's tale/old fable where one progresses through trials in different worlds (different train cars). No huge twist really, ending was just ok. Felt like they kinda just sprung some stuff at the end - background of the main character that didn't really hit the mark or make you feel really connected to the characters. A bit odd, reminded me a little of metropolis with the communism underpinnings which perhaps didn't resonate with me. Surprised the critics weren't as critical of the main concept.
