The South Park movie has everything a South Park should come to expect whilst also working as a stand-alone film. There's the gleeful vulgarity, satirical storyline including having surprisingly catchy songs for musical numbers that are just meant to be making fun of Disney and the same crudely drawn yet recognizable animation from the show. Though there is a really cool-looking CGI sequence where Kenny goes to Hell (not that big of a spoiler, Kenny was killed every episode back then). South Park: BIgger, Longer & Uncut is a good movie that can be considered more than an extended episode by exploring themes such as censorship and what type of content children should be subjected to as hilariously as possible.
The title says it all. This is just another South Park episode, only bigger (four times the usual length), bolder (the trope of a musical special), and uncut (all profanity now available). More jokes miss, but the proportion of hits to misses is the same. And contemporary musicals sure needed a good skewering at that time. Who better than Stone and Parker? When revisiting my favourite South Park episodes, I feel more inclined to watch the TV-run episodes than this monumental obscenity, but Bigger, Longer and Uncut is still a must for any appreciator of Parker and Stone's sharply vulgar, no-targets-left-behind satire.
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is a glorious achievement as the film that never disappointed as is mostly the case with TV-to-film adaptations. The characters are all memorable and superbly utilized here and the story is very well crafted and naturally thematically rich and sophisticated, but the humor is fantastic as it is funny from start to finish with a great joke after joke and many instantly recognizable lines and moments. It also succeeds as a musical with many great songs with the highlight being Up There which is a great parody of Disney music. Whether as a musical or as a comedy, you can't deny its greatness.
Two things I absolutely CAN NOT tolerate in a suspense/horror movie; slobbering and drinking out of the milk container. This one does both. It goes out of its way to simply push every irritation button there is. Not horror for horror's sake.....gross for gross's sake. There's a heck of a difference. Gross is not horror, horror is not simply gross. The bad guy isn't simply the ugly one. The ugly one isn't always the bad guy. This movie pushes every cliche button there is.
