Ophelia (2018)

Watched this on Filmxy.Vip online. I actually loved the cinematography and you can tell they took some images from well known paintings (first seen in the opening scene w/ millais’ ophelia and then it continues with subtle hints to other famous pieces) and made them into living scenes, the result was a gorgeous project to look at. but sadly that’s all i could do, i wasn’t able to get into the full movie entirely because of the editing, i believe it was awful and it really murdered the entire movie for me. the way some scenes are used twice on different places is too visible and this is done more than once. there is even a scene where they messed up the order of the shots near the ending, i rolled my eyes a lot.  

Ophelia (2018) sadly looked unprofessional due the errors i kept catching. While i also hated the dialogues, wish they made it more bard-ish but since this is based on a novel maybe the novel is to blame here, i believe the cast (especially daisy riddle) was amazing. daisy’s ophelia was not only gorgeous outside but on the inside too. she gave the character another dimension and portrayed her all too well despite the screenplay being mediocre. ridley and watts are the victims of this movie imo, since they gave star quality performances but the movie was a bit of a mess in some cases and that is shadowing their shine.  

However, i free downloaded this movie and i believe this is a movie people should check out on. the director has vision and you can sense it, kudos to ridley for working with a female director on such an indie project even though she knew this wouldn’t add into her star wars fame. i have tons of problems with the movie because i hoped for the best since i love Ophelia and i was too excited for her story to be told, however i also believe it’s worth to see. you’ll hold your breath at some of the shots due to them being gorgeous. and if you don’t view the movie as an hamlet adaptation but entirely its own thing, it can even pass out as a good period-drama.
