Mr. Harrigan’s Phone (2022)

As the month in which Halloween occurs, one can expect quite a number of dark movies in the October month. And this movie, which is based on a short story of Stephen King, fits right into this.With the two leading actors Donald Sutherland and Jaeden Martell, we get to see some excellent actors. We of course all know Donald Sutherland. Jaeden Martell is a rising star after his exellent performance as the lead in AppleTV’s “Defending Jacob”.With this strong cast and a story that is based on the work of the world’s best horror writer Stephen King, one would automatically expect this to be an excellent movie. Unfortunately however, nothing is further from the truth. I found the movie dull and very predictable. It also looks more as a critique to the effects that mobile phones have on society. This in a way that people’s lives are so much influenced by phones.I want to mention that movie the Apple iPhone is shown so often, that I got the impression that Apple paid for product placement. That this may be the case could even be supported by the fact that later on an iMac laptop was used.Concluding, I think this movie deserves not more than a score of 5.4 stars. This I round down to 5 stars. Without the two famous actors, this movie wouldn’t even be worth your time.As a final note I want to say that this movie reminded me of “Flatliners”. A movie that is also about the afterlife and in which Donald Sutherland’s son Kiefer coincidentally featured in the star role.
