I've seen a few of the Berg bro's recent screen efforts and if you thought 'Patriot's Day' was a little too jingoistic well this is the same but on steroids. First 10mins is literally an advert for the Navy Seals then we follow the central foursome as they grunt and get shot without it ever seeming to affect them in any way. It's based on a true story and whilst I don't want to speak ill of the dead, if this is an accurate portrayal they seem like the worst soldier to ever set foot on foreign soil?! Honestly it's laugh out loud some of the decisions they make. Anyway in reality it's probably almost all nonsense so let's just move on.
Here we see a lot of familiar faces. Woodrow from True Detective is back and heroic and handsome as ever. The two dueling antagonists from Alpha Dog are back, and it's a little unnerving to see them on the same side. Mark Wahlberg is more rednecky than normal and fits his role quite nicely. This movie gives a nice insight into the American military. There is a training montage at the beginning that's well done. Then you just see some barracks life, and for the first time in my life I actually thought it might be fun to be a navy seal. Of course that goes out the window when the action starts. The action scenes were all well done but there were two in particular that were literally painful to watch. This movie didn't have an anti-islam vibe. I would recommend seeing it when it comes to the movie channels at least once.
I think the critics have either been bought off or they are so unintelligent these days, they can't see a good movie from the bad. This movie was an epic failure on all levels. It starts off with a long drawn out shallow banter between what seems like a bunch of shallow frat boys made to pretend like navy seals. This is the worst kind of tribute for the real guys. Utterly pretentious and shallow..stay away from even a free viewing.
