Two Soviet sailors, Peter and Sergei, go ashore in Liverpool to spend one night on the town. Peter can speak a minimal amount of English but it's enough to make contact with two Liverpudlian natives, Elaine and Theresa. Elaine and Peter immediately fall in love with each other, but the night is short and they must leave with the ship. Elaine can't forget him and writes a letter to Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev, asking him to make it possible for them to reunite.

Yimou Zhang has made some stuff that I've really enjoyed in the past and the premise to 'The Great Wall' sounded just ridiculous enough that it could have been enjoyably fun, but what can I say about it other than it's atrociously bad. Horribly cast, horribly written and horribly executed, I honestly don't know what they could have been thinking. It's not only about as generic and cheesy as you can get, but there's also an absurd amount of things that make no sense at all -- too many to list. At the very least you'd hope for some wicked action sequences, but they're not particularly exciting, either. The only thing that is a plus point is the visuals (not including the CGI which is so-so, at best) that hints at Zhang's flair.

Loud, pretentious and highly irritating film that I classify as monster fantasy genre in the same category as Godzilla. Even the great wall of China was suspiciously fake like everything else. Aggravating the CGIs giant wolf like monsters, were the Chinese cast Andy Lau and his cohort speaking in their non native tongues. There was so much CGI in the film it was hard to take the movie seriously. The fighting was too choreographed that it became laughable. The bungee jumping spear welding female soldiers and the hot air lanterns conveying the soldiers from the great wall to the forbidden city all added to the fantasy mood of the film.

The Great Wall is an interesting addition to the fantasy film realm.the only fault i could muster was the character building or lack of it. the lead cant be all that mysterious to shine as well as th e skills portrayed, and yes referring to mat damons character not the world saving princess... in tow.super conceptual twist on there being monsters... lots of monsters.. many many monsters.. well the hive and queen is a nice touch.the combat was fast and made the film enjoyable. overall is a complete motion picture enough to say under rated though i did miss it at the cinima or until now for that matter. must be a marketing thing hahh.
