The last 30 minutes that had the reveal the whole film was building up to was pure garbage. The sheer gore will make you flinch but the plot is such a disaster that it doesn't even make a difference. I wanted to be scared but am just grossed out. I love a good gory horror movie if it's done well but this was a definite miss. Characters that were hardly believable and a story not worth being invested in. Too bad, with a title like this I really wanted it to be good but it amounted to mindless gore porn at best.

From the director of the zombie/samurai classic Versus, The Midnight Meat Train is a stylishly brutal little horror film based upon a story by Clive Barker. Featuring ample character development and psyhological as well as physical horror, Kitamura's film is a twisted little jaunt that blends the paranoid with the body horror genres in a way that is simultaneously disturbing and delightful. Having seen The Hangover, it's entertaining to see Bradley Cooper in such a visceral role. The Midnight Meat Train may seem slow and disappointing during the first half but its second half and ending pack a horror whallop that you will not soon forget.

A film of two halves. The first takes an interesting premise, nuanced and well portrayed characters, and gives the audience an engaging journey about murder, aspirations and identity. At the 1 hour mark I was certain that this film would be rewarding for its genre & perhaps greatly overlooked. The second half is so utterly ridiculous and bizarre, that every compliment and investment I had built for the film in its first half, was utterly butchered. It is a wonder that one film can provide some of the most realistic and honest portrayals of humans undergoing fear - and then arrive at the most unexpected and cartoonish of endings. The exact opposite of what it says on the tin, dubious meat within. 2 stars.

It's rare that I walk away from a movie so unsettled. This one left me with an uncomfortable feeling for days afterwards. Hats off Eva Green for her portrayal of this complex character in such a way that I admired her, wanted to be her, pitied her, and hated her. All in an hour. Unsettling content, exceptional acting. Bravo Miss G.
