Timeline seemed like it could be a big, epic blockbuster. It had the cast, the cool premise and a good director but it all added up to a boring movie. Things just seemed to drag on and besides the aspect of time travel the story was rather bland overall. They had some big moments with great sets and tons of people along with big battles but it was all so underwhelming. At times it all seemed cheesy and the dialogue was almost like they were making it up on the spot or stumbling through the script. There really was not much in this film to like besides the great cast of actors and 1 or 2 interesting moments.
Well let's say it as it is...timeline is a pretty bad film. The reconstitution of middle age France is quite poorly conceived, extras and background action lacking any real depth or even energy. everyone seem very slow to react and seems to wait for the first AD to shout action background. The main cast isn't better, most actors being very dull and saying their lines with very little convictions. Paul Walker is so out of place in this film, any second I expected him to tell his girlfriend...hey babe how about we go for a ride... The storyline could have been interesting but here it's cliché and very predictable. Richard Donner is a good director but obviously the epic tales aren't his niche.
While excavating in the Dordogne Valley of France, a scientific research team's new invention, a time-travel machine, has inadvertently sent archaeology professor Edward Johnston (Billy Connolly) back to 14th century France...and ha landed him in the middle of the raging Hundred Years War between the French and English. Johnston's only chance for rescue lies in the hands of his son Chris (Paul Walker), his assistant professor Andre Marek (Gerard Butler), and several of his students. The intrepid time travelers must make the same treacherous journey and, with the deadline of only eight hours now ticking away, must navigate through the hostile, war-torn territory and retrieve the professor before he's lost to history forever. also stars Frances O'Connor, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Neal McDonough, Matt Craven and Ethan Embry.directed by Richard Donner.
