Faith's world is turned upside down after she finds out that her beloved father is dying. When the mysteriously alluring Sissy Young becomes her field hockey coach, Faith finds a compassionate spirit and much-needed mother figure. Little does she know that Sissy is the head of a centuries-old witches' coven that uses the fruit of an ancient cherry tree in a secret ritual that restores life to the dead and dying. Offering to cure her father in exchange for a child, Sissy strikes a bargain with Faith, who suddenly finds herself pregnant with a baby that's growing at an alarming rate. But with the clock to the child's birth ticking down and the true intention of Sissy's plans for humanity becoming more apparent, Faith and her father must stand together in order to save both their lives.

Sometimes I wonder how movies get made. This film's logline: A married man has an affair with his best friend's daughter. Somehow, despite the film being a John Waters-type taboo, I bought into it. Afterwards, I felt cheated out of Rio and of the plot. But, Michael Caine in un-unlikeable. You can't hate him. He's just too great. Demi Moore in an early role flirts with a really dark character... But eventually turns out to be a living plot device. The harlot daughter is a pretty terrible actress. I'm not surprised this didn't end unconventionally in the 80s. I'm left thinking this film might actually be more successful now, because we seem to better capable at taking risks.

Easily avoidable romantic comedy drama here. It's like Lost in Translation meets The Graduate in the worst way possible. British sex beast Michael Caine (love his flixster pic) & Joseph Bologna move or take a vacation (they never really say) to Rio with their 2 hot daughters which include a young Demi Moore & 17 year old Michelle Johnson who steals every scene from Demi. And look whose career took off! Caine & Johnson end up hooking up & from there this movie just becomes a game of keep our secret hidden. Suspense is almost non existent though. And the characters are under developed, especially Bologna. Caine has a few good lines, but he can't save this movie. Plus its aged terribly.
