Act of Valor is the real deal. No Robert McKee pod people or hypno-'How to Not Write a Script' to be found here Thank G-d. This is my mentor (never had the chance) Jean Luc Goddard amped on insane adrenline letting real guys lay it on you. In essence, it is true filmmaking IMO. And I've been around the block from culver city to burbank a few million times. stunning and in your face audacious. Jingoistic? Complexities? Tell that to the families of my three dear friends who feel no complexity after getting slaughtered on 9/11. Watch THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING a few hundred times then try to watch what is considered today as 'on the edge' filmmaking. The only edge that has taken Hollywood is what seat you'll get for lunch at The Grill. Peace to all. 95%

This Pentagon endorsed recruitment ad is a total Tom Clancy wet dream of special forces porn made for the Call of Duty generation. If you go in with nothing more, by way of expectation, than a highly subjective, overly simplistic, flag waving, hero worshiping, macho propaganda exercise that's not shy about fawning over the superiority of the US military, than you won't be disappointed. It owns the fact that it's a love letter to US Elite Special Forces but as long as you focus on the catalogue of head-shots, slick battle scenes, explosions and radio lingo than you won't miss the complete lack of anything real or meaningful. xXx

Now first of all, I have to say this is more of a "call of duty like" in terms of presentation (if you are a video game fan you know what I mean). I thought the first half was as generic as it could get though I'm a bit surprised bout the whole army action thing presentation. It really gets me up, especially when the action heats up. I thought the pacing was very well made. I never get bored when these actors know what they are doing (even as a terrorist or a soldier). With all the hype and criticism that this film gets, it is a well made action flick that reminds us how these spec ops are a big part of our nation. A good flick with no alcohol required.
