This was a truly awful movie. A serious ego trip for Wu Jing. The man who can stop and divert missiles with bed mattresses, punch underwater(?!), down baijiu like water and drive 4x4's into childrens hospitals with complete ease all the while trying to advance a shite plot with some bullet round his neck. Then there was the muscle flexing during the beach scene. My god!I am at fault though if the movie somehow miraculously saved face by having a dignified and well written ending. An ending where our character was shot for ruining Chinese cinema. But I wouldn't know because me and my equally disgusted Chinese girlfriend walked out.

It makes sense many people outside of China doesn't understand why this movie is such a huuuge success in China-- almost 4 billion sale in two weeks! We grow up with great respect to our soldiers -- they really are always showing up when disasters like huge flood, earthquakes happens, always helping with warmest hand and ??, seeing them always means safety to us! This movie-- the hero soldier-- can be related to almost every Chinese who has the same experience! I watched this movie yesterday and I'm so proud of actor Jing, this is the hero I can relate and respect! I'm sure we need hero like this in every country, and we all own those people who protect us to have a peaceful life a big Thank you! I never rate any movie, but this one is an exception!

Going into Victoria, it must be known that there was one facet alone that made it one of the most talked about art house films of last year: It's all shot seemingly in one take. It's a feat that other films almost pulled off (I.E. Rope, Birdman), but Victoria does it with pure sleekness and technical aplomb. It's a miracle in filmmaking for sure, but how is the actual movie? Well, that's less impressive. Victoria's narrative isn't without its meanderings, and the decision to have the film become a heist thriller in the 2nd act isn't a smooth shift. While there are moments of nuance sprinkled throughout, there just isn't enough character development to have the characters really connect with the viewer too. So Victoria is well-worth seeing, but mainly for its craft, rather than its humanity.
