Based on a Japanese folk legend that echoes the tale of Robin Hood, this ninja thriller follows the exploits of Goemon Ishikawa (Yôsuke Eguchi), who leaves his fighting clan after its chief is murdered and uses his skills as a thief to help the poor. But after learning the identity of his leader’s killer – the traitorous Hideyoshi (Eiji Okuda) – Goemon sets out on a bloody path of vengeance, joined by his loyal friend, Saizo (Takao Ôsawa).

If you watched and liked the movie casshern then you already have an idea of the style for which they use in goemon. Its almost like they purposely over-use cgi to create their own unique visual experience. My problem with cgi is when someone creates some sort of creature and trys to make it look real, ultimatly leading to my disbelief. With goemon however they know that it looks fake and thats exactly what they were trying to do. The result is visually amazing, there are so many scenes from this movie that look more beutifull than 95% any movie out there. Yeah the plot is quite robin hood like but it also has a bit of a mind of its own and my attention was held with a firm grip throughout the whole movie. Recommended highly for people who like things different.

"Goemon" is a Japanese historical drama based on the true story of Goemon Ishikawa's life during the Sengoku-era. It has a lot of action and heart-rending retributions since Goemon's mission is to avenge the death of Shogun Nobunaga. Though produced in 2009, the film has a poor CGI, which unfortunately could distract one from enjoying its excellent story plot and the battle scenes. However, this is a film that can teach a lot about Japanese history within a time frame of just two hours. This is a highly-recommended watch for history buffs.

Highly stylised anime-esque Movie that does remind in the first half of a Robin Hood-story and than changes to a quite political samurai-movie. Kazuaki does use a lot of clichees and his typical CG-format but the Story never fails to deliver, unlike Casshern, even though this black-and-white wolrd view a la Star Wars is a bit of a disappointment. Nevertheless, very enjoable and deserves recommendation. I´d give it a 3.5.
