Robert Duvall is really good in this, and it's good to see him giving these performances because I haven't seen him much lately. Unfortunately he doesn't get a better movie to do it in. I feel like it just turns into a sequence of scenes where the family yells at each other, and that got grating after a while. I think the filmmakers are trying too hard to pull at your heartstrings. And there's some weird stuff in here, like dancing around whether Hank made out with his daughter. It was good to see Ellie from Chuck albeit in only one scene as Hank's wife.

Beautiful cinematography by Janusz Kaminski. Great story not only about law but about dysfunctional family, these type of films are so touching and deep because we all have a little bit of a dysfunctional family ourselves. Superb acting. We need to see more films like this. I am so surprised the critics are turning into teenagers giving Transformers and Captain America great reviews but real great dramas like this film poor ratings. Also very surprising this coming from a Director who did Wedding Crashers but I guess peole change and have connections to pull this of and make a great drama story come to life.

when staring at red box I usually check rotten tomatoes scores if I am interested in a certain movie. I normally only check the critic score.... when I came across the judge, I really wanted to see it, but I needed justification. So after seeing the low ass 47% critic score, I checked the audience score and was happy to see 72%. Just the amount of back up I needed to rent it.... I just finished it and it is nowhere near a 47 and probably higher than a 72. possibly one of the most underrated films of the year. It told a great story and kept interest the entire time. Which is probably the biggest selling point on films.
