I thought the movie was great, did it have it's flaws yes, but so does every movie.It had great characters, a fitting story that didn't just have Vlad 100% evil even when he went vampire mode. It seemed pretty believable when he gave up everything to save his son.The idea of having the Turks invading and threatening to use Vlad's son and the sons of thousands of Transylvanian's for their armies being the reason why Vlad went to the vampire is a great idea and moves away from the regular mold I've seen Dracula being forced into constantly.The idea that there is a vampire above Drac is also interesting and could go many places if used correctly.I think this movie is pretty great despite the flaws it might have.

Honestly I think this is the best Dracula movie to date. It has a nice mix of medieval story telling with some fantasy mixed in, setting it all in historical Romania. It's a fun movie, it takes the known historical facts about the real Vlad and mixes it with the fantasy story telling to what we know to be vampires to date, not making it an over the top movie while also keeping it interesting at the same time. It uses an already interesting story and puts a good twist on it, rather than taking the same old boring vampire story and making up some bullshit story about why they are so, well vampy. I'd love to see a sequel to this movie.

Dracula's retold origin story, with very few ties to the historical character or Stoker's sources, as an action-packed medieval adventure with a few horror aspects. The special effects are great and there are a few (visually) outstanding scenes, with its short running time, the film could hardly bore you if it tried. That being said, it also feels pretty shallow, staying one rather predictable paths just aiming for the sequel that may never come in the end. There is some unused potential here, one has to wonder why the film didn't take the time to breathe and add some depth to its characters and story.
