Just watched it this weekend.It's super Belle-and-Sebastian centric ... but it's fine. I do appreciate their music.Characters:Olly and Emily played the James and Eve character well. Emily's voice is great. While watching I promised myself to look for albums or songs that she may have produced other than the soundtrack from this film.Olly's great. He can act. He got it. He's good acting awkward scenes. (I'm a Years and Years fan anyway - reason why I watched this film.)Hannah Murray. Hmmm. She's like Cassie - the girl who looks and acts "high".Story:Feels like "Begin Again" and "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist"Film:I love it because it's not hollywood.UK films has always given me this fresh view to films - same feeling like these films are created to affect people, for art and not for money.

Belle and Sebastian's songs highlight this story about a depressed woman who forms a band with a quirky hipster.Tonally inconsistent, God Help the Girl splits its personality from a so-quirky-it's-sweet love-ish story to a sad tale about a woman's struggle with mental illness. It is as though director Stuart Murdoch couldn't figure out what story to craft with the assortment of songs.Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, and Skins and Game of Thrones alum, the ever-delightful Hannah Murray all give hipster-cute performances that should be in a different movie, one that actually takes advantage of their charms.Overall, if you're tired of the hipster aesthetic, you should see the opposite of this film.

It seems less and less that I watch something Worth Seeing. However, God Help The Girl is definitely a worth seeing film, though admittedly I thought it would be TV Viewing at first. But with it getting better over time, honestly I am left hoping there is a sequel as much as I wish this was a mini-series. Especially since the main negative thing about the film is that we don't get to know much about the characters' lives before the band, and hardly get to know James and Cass at all. Though with good music, an overall cute story, and it leaving you wanting more, the little bit of negatives certainly don't outweigh the positives. Leading me to say that you should certainly see God Help The Girl, perhaps buy the soundtrack, and definitely share it with your friends!
