Dear Director of Hector and the Search for Happiness:1. Africa is not a single country but rather a continent comprised of 54 individual countries. 2. There are no major African airlines that have livestock travelling amongst passengers on the plane. 3. Depicting Africa as a single country of drug lords, white saviour aid workers, and happy go lucky villagers is racist. 4. Creating a female Chinese character as a damsel in distress sex worker from a small town and eluding that this by spending a night next to her is a British mans way to happiness is sexist, and racist. 4. Watching this film was nearly as nauseating as listening to Donald Trump speak.

I found this movie to be very entertaining and fulfilling. Was the movie a little outlandish as far as events that occur, yes. But...this movie did what most don't. It made me laugh out loud several times and kept me interested in what was going to happen to the main character. The way overly harsh main critic reviews of this movie are exactly why I don't like to read a review for a movie before I see and comment on it. I feel like sometimes the critics are under a lot of pressure to "go with the flow" and are afraid what other critics will think of them. Maybe not...I don't know but the difference between critic and audience reviews is extreme on this movie. And viewers from Netflix gave it almost a perfect score. Give this one a shot, I think you will enjoy it.
