Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. Her punishment is made all the more unbearable by the fact she has to live there with her mother Miriam - a well-intentioned blabbermouth who's convinced that the house is haunted. Kylie dismisses Miriam's superstitions as nothing more than a distraction from a life occupied by boiled vegetables & small-town gossip. However, when she too becomes privy to unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she's inherited her overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who's less than happy about the new living arrangement.

Housebound is a horror comedy that knows exactly how to be a horror comedy. It is silly at times but the film knows it is silly, which made it very enjoyable to watch. First time director Gerard Johnstone also found a few funny ways to make fun of some of the classic horror movie clichés that we all hate. In the end Housebound was a fun little film that I had a blast watching!

It's not a unique idea, girl is under house arrest and starts hearing things and thinks her creepy neighbour has something to do with some dodgy goings on. But the writing and characters make it so much more than that. Again some parts are similar to the directing style of Edgar Wright, not too silly and in no way serious .Another little gem from New Zealand that you need to watch.

This film really delivered on the scare factor but I beside the opening I didn't find it funny. And also there was some scenes that felt very contrived, for example (spoiler free) the main character coincidentally notices about one of the characters, she formulates the they are the villain, turns out they are the villain. That scene happened around two-thirds into the movie. And the ending was a bit too rushed. I also have a problem with the Mother character in the story. At one point the main character is being strangled my the main villain and the mother is huddled in the corner in terror. She does help her daughter, the main character in the end but it was just an uncomfortable display of cowardice which is not reflective of real mothers. This films had a great climatic opus feel to it. Where all the pieces on the chess board has been established and it was to the point of and epic collision. All and all, this a good film to watch, maybe not like he who decided to watch it at 3am on a rainy night in the garage.
