The purge: Anarchy on the other hand happens to be the all out action adventure through a dangerous, morally corrupt city. It adds a lot to how things work in the annual 'Purge', it shows the desperation that some people will go for money, as well as how money can affect ones purge. Money is basically safety, it says a lot about peoples values. The best way to describe this film as a whole is that it felt like Punisher had been given a 12 hour window to kill, and does he fucking kill. The two films are completely different, the 2nd being more for the action nut, the first more of a thriller. I'd always choose a thriller, but overall there wasn't much separating the two, rating wise.

It is an absolute shame that this film has to be associated with its failure of a predecessor. It is an extremely rare type of sequel that entertains and stands in its own right, despite the original being a terrible film. The story is a shockingly ambitious blend of horror and action, has the feel of an 80s grindhouse film, and is full of creative ideas (despite it overly vilifying the wealthy in its 3rd act). It is also well acted and Frank Grillo makes a great action star.

As a surprise the sequel is better then the first movie. This movie has much more suspense then the first one and even shows some humor throughout. I like that you see how it would be on the street and you are experiencing the fear and panic that the actors show. I feel if this movie would have started the franchise then it could have been a more promising series.
