Kid Cannabis (2014)

Everything a drug gangster movie should not be. Understood the protagonist is a loser, but does he have to be a loser at acting too? There are more than a few plot holes and an obvious lack of research into the source material which is clearly shown in the final cut. The showcase of weed culture is depressing to say the least. According to the film, anywhere the fat kid goes there's just weed and that's even before he becomes a dealer. A poor attempt or a story not worth adapting into film.

Kid Cannabis seems like it will be your typical teen comedy about smoking weed and partying. Turns out, this film was a great drama based on the true story of a guy who started a drug smuggling business from Canada and became rich. The whole thing was just interesting and involving and it very rarely lost my interest. The group of friends are fun and likable and seeing how their smuggling plan comes together was amazing. There may be lots of smoking and craziness that goes on but its all context with the serious nature going on around them. The title may turn most people away but if you give this film a shot, it has a lot to enjoy.

Terrible. Riddled with mildly more interesting subplots that are half developed and promptly forgotten. Main character horribly cast (looks like Bobby Moynihan's little cousin, except he can't act). None of the characters are likeable, especially the main one, who abandons his family out of sheer cowardice. Costume design ridiculous (ghillie suits? while sprinting?). Script reads like a highschool composition book with a shitty "hard-boiled" voiceover that sounds ridiculous when read by the pubescent fat-ass actor. It's based on a true-story, and I still didn't believe any of it in the slightest. All-in-all, as entertaining as watching bathwater evaporate.
